Trapeze class!

So today I took my first trapeze class with my friend Wendy from work and our friend Rhiannon went along and was kind enough to record us. 


I got to do a double flip at the end because I'm so flippy. 

The next video is when I actually got to swing to another person.  It was an incredible feeling. 


It was so cool when I realized that I was actually going to get caught!!

They had a deal for first time people and if you signed up for your next class then you got a third class free so I am going the next two Saturdays!! 

It was such an awesome experience and a great reminder to step outstide of my comfort zone more often.  It was incredibly freeing and such an amazing feeling.  I am very thankful to Wendy for asking me and I can't wait to go again!!!

Tell Me About Yourself Bloggy Award



Kim at (Just) Trying is for Little Girls nominated me for this cool bloggy award.  I've been a follower of her blog for a long time now and love it!

My Random Facts:

1.  I continue to write "run!" on my palm when I am feeling unmotivated to actually get out there and do it.  9 times out of 10, it works.

2.  I light candles every night when I get home this time of year.  It just makes it feel so cozy and warm.  Ikea has really good smelling cheap candles.  I buy 12 at a time.

3. Watching movies that I liked as a kid is comforting to me.  I watched Mrs. Doubtfire on Monday night.  It still makes me laugh.

4.  I am going home for Thanksgiving for the first time in 3 years.  I will see my entire family in the span of a week.  Parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins... all of them.  I will also get to meet my baby brother, John, who was born in January of this year.

5.  I enjoy writing in my spare time and I'm trying to get better about doing it on a daily basis again.  It helps me be more calm and really process things, as well as get motivated and excited about new experiences.

6.  Six is my lucky number.

7.  I have successfully kept a plant alive for 2.5 years and it still looks good.  Granted I only have to water it 4 times per year, but I am still pretty impressed with myself!

Racing!

As I am rejuvenated by my recent time in San Francisco, I have signed up for two more races!  The first is a 5k in Providence, Rhode Island on December 4.  I haven't raced a 5k since last December, which is shocking to me, but I am really looking forward to it.  I enjoy participating in races that have a cause that they benefit, rather than the local bar.  This race benefits "Project Undercover."  They are asking all participants to bring either new and unwrapped clothing or toys to donate.  I'm trying to decide on a goal time for this race and my little sister (okay, she's younger but taller) has challenged me to try to beat her time that she recently did 3 miles in.  I think it's sweet that she has faith in me that I can beat her, but let's be honest, she's 21 and on the rowing team for her university so she is in much better shape than me.  I intend on beating my current record and that's it.

The second is the New Bedford Half Marathon on March 18.  My goal for this race is also to beat my personal record.  I really want to focus on longer speed workouts, getting those tempo miles longer and faster.  I am definitely excited to run another half marathon.  The major pro is that it begins VERY near my house so it will be nice not to have to "travel" for a race.  I've already developed a training plan for the first quarter of 2012 and I am trying to decide if I want to bribe myself with a gift if I follow it exactly.  There is a rather expensive piece of running gear that I'd like (as a replacement of my current piece) and I feel like I need to justify the purchase to myself.  So I am thinking that if I can stick to the training plan that I can treat myself.    What do you think?

I am still toying with the idea of a marathon.  Now is definitely the time for me to train for one with the spare time that I have in my life because I won't feel like I'm taking away from anything if I decide to go for a run.  I'm going to continue to hold off on the decision and see how the rest of the year goes.  The local marathon in May doesn't sell out so I'm not worried about not getting in.  It's actually the first one I was supposed to do this year so it would be nice to actually do it next year.  Hopefully I will just be accepted as an Ambassador for SF and that will solve this little dilemma.


I've put up a lot of my NWM memorabilia around my apartment and I like the way it looks.  I even have two of the cowbells up on my bookshelf in my living room.  I will be hanging the space blanket up in the spare room because it has NWM all over it and it will be a good way to motivate myself.  My bib corkboard is overflowing so I will be purchasing a new one soon and possibly be moving all of my running stuff into the spare room as it has taken over my walk-in closet.  Plus, it smells. 

In preparation for my half marathon in March, my miles will be ramping up because every summer I decide that I enjoy running in the fall and winter better but every year come February I decide it's summer that I love.  Such a tough decision.  With the miles and yoga, I think that I will go back to being filled with energy and rarely feel "tired."  I miss that. 

I've been trying to get better about stepping outside my comfort zone in an attempt to find new things that I enjoy and next weekend I will be trying something pretty crazy.  A few months ago one of my friends mentioned that she was going to a trapeze class.  At first I thought that sounded pretty crazy and terrifying but then she showed me the video of her class and I thought it looked pretty cool.  Long story short, I will be going next Saturday!  Don't worry, it's safe.  I fully intend on sticking with running and not running away with the circus. 

Well tomorrow... technically later today... I will be going to the grocery store so I can stock my fridge with healthy stuff to fuel my body so I don't feel so dead on my feet while running.  I've lost a lot of weight this summer and it has added to my difficulty with running.  I need to put a little back on and tone.  Toning will be key.

What did you do/are you doing this weekend?  Last night I went out with some of the girls from work to dinner, comedy show and then out.  So much fun.  I laughed really REALLY hard.  Today I was lazy and then hung out with my crazy trapeze friend, followed by a pleasant and cordial drink with Jess.  Tomorrow it's running, groceries and dinner with a friend.  LOVING the weekend.  I am learning to surround myself with good people who make me laugh because laughter truly is the best medicine.

Nike Women's Half Marathon - Recap!

Well everyone, I did it!  I finished!  It actually ended up being a pretty decent race for me even though I only ran a handful of times in the past month and a half.  My last "long" run was August 4.  CRAZY!  I arrived to San Francisco last Friday and after checking into my hotel, I went over to the expo.  There were SO many people!  It was incredible!  Union Square was all decked out in Nike stuff.  It was so cool.

After the race we went to the hotel and relaxed a bit and then hopped on a tour bus and rode around the city, trying to spot places we wanted to go the next day!

As you can see by the pictures, I had an amazing trip.  I am so thankful that my aunt was there with me.  We had so much fun and it was great to spend so much time with her.  If I get the chance to do this race again, I absolutely will -- but I will do the full.  I am surprised with my results in the race... it wasn't my worst half time.  My official time was 2:29:05, and with my crappy training and the San Francisco hills, I am very impressed with myself.  It's been a tough summer so I'm very proud of myself for finishing this race.  Thank you all for your support.  Now it is time for me to catch up on your blogs!

Anyone want to go do the San Francisco Marathon on July 29 (MY BIRTHDAY) next year?  Let me know!  I've applied to be an Ambassador for the race and will find out November 4.  It's a long shot but it can't hurt to apply!

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow I leave for San Francisco!  I am so excited.  I can't wait to see the Golden Gate Bridge in person.  And just walk around the City.  Any places you recommend I go?  We have tickets for Alcatraz on Tuesday.  Running has been so-so.  My motivation has been all over the place but I know I will come back from the weekend with a renewed passion for running. 


If I like San Francisco as much as I THINK I will, I may sign up to run the SF Marathon next year and it's on my birthday!  I will be 29 on July 29 so what better way to celebrate??!

I ran!

Yay!  I just got home from a run.  It wasn't a very long run but it felt GREAT to get out there.  I was already thinking about running today when I got this in the mail...
The lovely Amanda over at Runninghood sent me an awesome sticker with a very sweet note.  Totally made my day!  Thanks Amanda!

Guess what?  I'm going for a run tomorrow too.  I've been thinking all day about how I need to pick myself up and make better choices.  I don't want to fall apart completely.

I did something pretty cool on Thursday... I got a new tattoo!  I've been wanting to get a new one for a while now and I ended up just doing it!  They were able to take me in right then when I went to consult with them.  Here's the finished product:
"Live Your Life"  I'm really impressed with the work the guy did and the shop was so clean!  This was number 10!

Right now I'm watching Friends, relaxing and am about to read the latest copy of Runner's World.
